DON CARTER SELLS HIS SHARE OF SIDEKICKS TO THE WILLIAMS

DALLAS - Dallas Sidekicks' owners Don and Linda Carter announced that they will sell their share of the Sidekicks to Sonny and Gretchen Williams. The Carters and the Williams each owned 50-percent of the Dallas Sidekicks.

"It has been a great period in my life," says Don Carter.

The Carters brought the Sidekicks to Dallas in 1984 and have been involved ever since. They also brought the Dallas Mavericks to the Metroplex in 1980.

"I've tried to retire many times before," says Don Carter.  "Now I'm a grandpa, I want to ride my motorcycle, so this year, I met with Sonny and I told him, 'I need some more do nothing time.'"

Sonny and Gretchen showed mixed emotions as the announcement was made.

"This is a sad day, but it's a good day," says Sonny Williams. "The good news is, the Carters are still in Dallas.

"Whenever you're working with Don, you're working with Integrity, honesty, and compassion. I could see his compassion for Dallas and this community when he came to Gretchen and I five or so years ago wanting not only to win, but to continue to bring indoor soccer to the kids. That's what it's about. He wanted to carry on indoor soccer at Reunion at a reasonable price for kids."

The Sidekicks open their 18th season Saturday September 28 at 7:05 p.m. at Reunion Arena. The game will be a meeting of the champions in the first league game following the merger of the World Indoor Soccer League and the Major Indoor Soccer League. The 2001 WISL Champion Dallas Sidekicks host the 2002 MISL Champion Philadelphia Kixx. The Sidekicks will present their fourth championship banner before the game. The 2001 WISL banner will join the 1987, 1993, and 1998 banners in the rafters at Reunion Arena.
