1985:
The Sidekicks helped sponsor Operation Child Find, a local effort to provide
free photographs and fingerprints of children for parents to use should their
children be kidnapped or lost. KLUV-FM (98.7) radio started the program in
1984, and the Sidekicks promotional efforts made the program an even bigger
success.
Fan (non)Appreciation
1987:
Late in the third quarter, a ball that went over the glass near the Sidekicks
goal was thrown back in by a fan. Not unusual, except the guy threw a
fastball
that missed Blast forward Andy Chapman's head by inches. Chapman didn't even
get the pleasure of having the fan around when his goal 1:54 into overtime
lifted Baltimore to a 3-2 victory over the Sidekicks.
Reason: the fan
was ejected.
Extra Duties
1990:
Equipment Manager Chris Agnes was drafted into play goalkeeper during practice
on this date due to the Sidekicks having 6 of the 18 players injured.
Future Opponents
1987: The New
York Express, founded as an exhibition team the winter previous, were
granted membership into the MISL on this date.
