1986:
24 hours after the club was declared dead, the Sidekicks were back in business
as a group lead by Jim Graham purchased an option to buy the Sidekicks from
then-former owner Don Carter.
Neither side would
tell the Dallas Morning News for the record what caused the deal to fall
through on June 9, but individuals
on both sides of the deal said that then-General Manager Ron Adkins requested
to be paid up to be bought out of the 10% ownership of the team he received
from Don Carter.
The new ownership
group (that would eventually be called Sidekicks I, Ltd.), privately
admitted it was a mistake to tell Mr. Adkins that he would not be
retained after the sale went through.
